In 1977, a technology expert flees from a mysterious past and returns to his hometown of Recife in search of peace. He soon realizes that the city is far from being the refuge he seeks. A thematically rich and visually arresting political thriller, The Secret Agent blends grindhouse stylization with biting social commentary to weave a vividly dangerous yet darkly human tale. The Secret Agent won Best Actor for Wagner Moura and Best Director for Kleber Mendonça Filho at the Cannes Film Festival, and is nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture.
