Moscow Film Society: Marie Antoinette

“Every criticism I have read of this film would alter is fragile magic and reduce its romantic and tragic poignancy to the level of an instructional film.”
— Roger Ebert
Moscow Film Society presents MARIE ANTOINETTE  as part of their Based on a True Story series of biopic films. The retelling of France’s iconic but ill-fated queen, Marie Antoinette. From her betrothal and marriage to Louis XVI at 14 to her reign as queen at 19 and to the end of her reign as queen, and ultimately the fall of Versailles. Unfairly maligned upon its release, Sofia Coppola’s lavish imagery and daring soundtrack set this film apart from most period dramas. In fact, the style elevates it to poetic portraiture of emotions rather than a list of facts and figures that most biopics bore us with. Join us for this special Valentine’s Day Screening and bring your sweetheart (or no one, we don’t really care).
