Beyond the Deep: A Look at What It Took to Swim the English Channel

Sunday, October 26 at 6 PM

Come join us for an inspirational evening at the Kenworthy exploring what it takes to swim the English Channel. Amy Mazur, who completed the swim in July 2025, and her lead support person, Tammy Bonney, will host a lively program of skits, presentations, and panels sharing what it took to get there.
Some of the most popular questions about channel swimming will be answered: How much and for how long did you swim? Were you accompanied by a boat? Where did you train? What and how did you eat, and how did you relieve yourself? Did you wear a wetsuit? What did you think about? Did you get stung by jellyfish? Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask their own questions.
Our first panel will feature Julian Matthews, Coordinator of Nimiipuu Protecting the Environment, along with others. They will discuss the toxic blue algae in the Snake River that prevented Team Amy from training for three summers in a row.
Our second panel will include one of the top women ultramarathon swimmers in the world and Channel Triple Crown finisher, Lura Wilhelm, along with a range of local sports professionals. Their focus will be what it takes to prepare for long-distance open water swimming and other endurance sports.
Afterward, we will flow into the Speakeasy to continue the conversation over beverages and light bites. Doors open at 6. The program runs from 6:30 to 8:30, with the reception in the Speakeasy from 8:30 to 10. Feel free to bring your friends and family.
